Has your system been infected with a computer virus and is in need of computer repair? If it has, then it is time to go and grab an antivirus program that can get rid of that nasty bug. The problem is, which one should you get; which program is the best out there? This seems like an easy enough question until you start poking around on the Internet. You soon realize that there are more antivirus programs out there than types of automobiles. Some are free while others are commercial. Some have a limited set of abilities while others have a mind boggling number of features. Some are popular wile others are more obscure. However, all of them promise to get rid of your infections and help repair your computer.

Now we here at Computer Repair Vancouver are not internet security programmers; then again very few technical support sites on the Internet are. As a result, it is very difficult to determine which application is the silver bullet cure for all of your computers ailments. In actuality, there probably is no silver bullet cure since all programs have different strengths and weaknesses. Therefore, we decided to surf around the Internet and read a wide variety of user opinions on various software packages to see what individuals (who used these programs) thought. From this, we came up with our list of the 3 best free antivirus programs. Do remember that this is a subjective opinion derived from a consensus of information obtained from various forums on the Internet; feel free to take it with a grain of salt.

Computer Repair Vancouver’s 3rd best free antivirus program: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition

AVG is one of the most popular antivirus programs available today. It comes in three different versions. Anti-Virus Free which is free, Anti-Virus 9.0 which costs about $35, and Internet Security 9.0 which costs about $60. The free version of the program which is available for any recent version of Windows (2000, XP, Vista, and 7) provides antivirus as well as antispyware capabilities; in fact, it handles viruses, worms, and trojans. It also has a link scanning feature which warns you of any unsafe webpages found while traversing search engines such as Google. The free version of it does not handle spam, root kits, or email scanning.

So what did the Internet community have to say about AVG? People agreed that it was a very popular program with a nice, clean interface (it was fairly easy to use). Furthermore, it did a good job of detecting viruses; you just have to make sure to update it once in a while. Unfortunately, AVG is not without faults. First off, the program can really bog down your system at times; this is something Computer Repair Vancouver can attest to. We have installed it on several of our computers and it can really impact your computer, particularly when it’s performing a scan. The problem here is that AVG takes quite some time to perform a full scan; one individual on the Internet stated that his scan process took several hours to complete. Another problem with this particular application is that it has run into a few bugs recently; in one instance the applications update servers were down; consequently, updating the program would fail (we assume that this issue has been dealt with as of the time of this writing).

Overall, AVG is a strong antivirus program with a long established track record. It does a good job of detecting malicious applications and is quite easy to use. Therefore, it is ideal for nearly any home user. The only reason we have placed it as 3rd most popular is because of its resource use and relative slowness (it can really bog down your computer at times). Despite saying this, if you are in need of computer repair because of a virus then AVG is definitely an option.

We hope that you have enjoyed the first part of our two part series on the Internets 3 best free antivirus programs. Next time, we will take a look at the top 2 applications in this particular field.
